I used to rinse my natural hair with a vinegar/water rinse instead of using a conditioner. Can I use a vinegar rinse after my newly dyed hair "cures" , with the first post dye shampoo and thereafter or will it strip the natural hair dye color. I know vinegar is used to set colors in yarn and so forth....The vinegar rinse is made from 3 or 4 parts water to 1 part apple cider vinegar.
Welcome to EarthDye's new natural hair dye community.
Sorry Vicki, I never saw this post! Doing a vinegar rinse before you apply the dye is awesome.
You can follow these instructions to help the color last longer:
-boil water and shut off before shower
-mix powders
-wash hair 2x w/shampoo
-wash with 1 cup of apple cider vinegar and let sit for 3 min, rinse out
-mix hot water with powders
-use application brush to apply and let sit for 1 hour
-rinse till clear
-do not wash my hair for 2 days after (do not wait longer). This helps the darker pigment set and my hair oils to further recoup.
I would be careful with those, many cause issues with our hair dyes after you use them.
Here is a way to strip natural hair color, but will not work so well on chemical hair dye.
I was not referring to the vinegar rinse to strip the color. Since it is a neutralizer I thought it might be a good, healthy way to continue rinsing my hair after each washing which gave my hair better health in the past before I began coloring it. I also thought it might help set the color as it does with colored Easter Eggs. I will not use it however if it reacts with the natural hair dyes you make. No problem.
PS I am VERY happy with the coloring of your dyes and feel younger again!
